Terry Dean Scheerer was born, through no fault of his own, on a dark and stormy night in Carthage, Missouri, on September 26, 1949. Some may consider the fact that his birth took place during a raging thunderstorm an omen, of sorts, which may have been a deciding factor in the direction his life and resulting dark moods thus took. Or not.

Growing up an introverted and solitary child, with few friends and no true male role model to emulate, at an early age he lost himself in a world of fantasy and imagination. Quickly becoming an avid reader, he wrote his first story for a school project at the age of eleven, and has dabbled in writing, off and on, ever since.

Not yet eighteen years of age and having already lived through an increasingly despondent life, filled with uncertainty and emotional conflicts, he experienced his first thoughts of suicide while a senior in high school, and spent the first of many such sessions in therapy. A temporary remission was eventually achieved, with the aid of medication, but severe, chronic depression and an overall frustration with life in general were to be his constant companions from that point on.

After his first short story sale in 2001, Terry was content to pen and publish a story or poem, here and there for several years, but in 2004 a serious bout of near terminal depression almost ended everything for him. Prolonged therapy and numerous medication changes managed to barely stave off total disaster, and some of his darkest work emerged from that episode.

In early 2005, he was diagnosed with cancer, and decided that it was time to put forth a concentrated effort to share his dark visions with the world at large, before it was too late. Thus was born his first book, a collection of poems and short stories entitled, "Dreams of Darkness, Dreams of Night."
