Shelly Elizabeth Sutton -- Bequeathed, Though They Thought You A Lie
b. 10-13-66 d. 10-13-86
She stood glorious to the sight, with a soul which shined ever so
Bright, bearing news that she was to spawn from the man she loved, in the name of God and all that was right -- Eva was to be her name, where happiness and the fever of Joy would be an eternal spring. For theirs was only the love of life in this clan of clans.
But, on one fateful night, when the moon was out of sight and the fog and mist Covered o’er her plight, in haste to get home to the man she loved. Her sight was Made dim from the whirling fog, which made to stress her sight, thus tarrying her Flight with impatient stress to her whim.
And, on that foetid night, with the moon out of sight, she lost control of the carriage She rode, and like a quick flash, she lost her life. Yet, there was more than her life Lost that night, for the child she was to give, followed her mother to that unknown Plight -- far from the man they loved.
It should as well be known, that the man they loved also lost his life that night -- for Never more shall that eternal spring flow from his heart, which now, beats no more. For never more will his happiness be known, for they’re eternal flowing spring flows No more -- night has fallen.
Standing barren unto the gods, hands and heart as empty as his soul seemed to be; He drew a tattered tome from beneath his coat, and pondering upon the words within -- poetry lessons he said. And; with a low purposeful tone, quite forlorn, he quoted Arnold's “Dover Beach” as he stood beside their grave:
“Ah, love, let us be true. To one another! for the world, which seems to lie before us, like a land of dreams, so various, so beautiful, so new, hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light, nor certitude, nor peace, nor help from pain; and we are here as on a darkling plain, swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight where ignorant armies clash by night..”
Solemn and cryptically still, he ends the passage knowing that part of him Must also lie benighted to the rest of the world. And alone he must forever Remain. Yet, his heart holds dear the memory of love’s labour lost, which shall Forever remain -- until time finds its end.
